An emerging artist from Sanpoil Band of Colville Tribes and a Spokane tribal descendent, Diane’s passion for acrylic and watercolor portraiture and figurative work was reinvigorated after an immersion class in ncelxcin (an interior Salish dialect). As she learned her language and through it her culture, Diane’s passion was awakened for the kind of work her own grandmother had done from her earliest childhood memories. Diane began by depicting scenes of identifiably dressed Salishan women engaged in traditional activities such as singing, dancing, and gathering. Diane paints with a loving understanding of her subject matter. Whether drumming and singing or protecting clean drinking water, these are images that Diane hopes her grandmother would approve.
